Starch Contest Winner—it was the scallops what did it.
Alright, after a week's worth of consideration, and a number of worthy entries, I've made my biased and arbitrary decision: Alyssa Dyane's seafood risotto has won her a kilo of Vialone Nano risotto rice.
Besides including the tasty scallop, there were two decisive elements to Alyssa's win...
1) Her recipe didn't call for Arborio, which under the circumstances is an automatic disqualification.
2) Her recipe didn't include any gourd. When the first pumpkin risotto recipe arrived, I thought we had a winner, but as the days wore on the squashes proliferated, and my brain's palate grew weary.
Special mention has to go to Jim Young for sparking the pumpkin fad, and to TheHouseMouse for the deep-fried rice and cheese balls.
If you would like to take issue with my ruling, I am happy to re-arbitrate my decision pending a tasting of the actual dish. Tuesday and Thursday nights work best for me, and I'll bring some wine.
