Babes aBrewing; women in beer

While at the Craft Brewers Conference, Lassa and I stumbled into the Pink Boots Society, http://pinkbootssociety.org/,  annual meeting. Quite unlike the 5/1 men/women ratio in the rest of the conference, the room was jammed with women in brewing; brewmasters, QA specialists, pub owners, marketers, retailers, distributors, etc. There were seasoned pros and newbies.

Sebbie Buhler of Rogue Ales (and label model on Rogue Chocolate Stout) introduced us as culture founders, and urged all pink booters (ies?) to discover cheese. And afterward, we got the chance to meet many of them.

They're an inclusive, friendly, and SMART crowd, these brewers. And they make, sell, and promote great beer. I can't get over the similarity between these craft brewers and artisan cheese makers and mongers. If you could ferment and culture enthusiasm, you'd have a great big groaning table of beer and cheese.

Dig in!

Wow! That must have been

Wow! That must have been quite an experience. Women in brewing are more rare than men so seeing them all together sharing the same event must have been quite something. Did the Beer of the month clubs have any representatives there? I'm just curious on that.

I can't say either way. I

I can't say either way. I didn't get a chance to meet them all. Based on a legal briefing I attended at the conference, I would imagine that b of the mo clubs have a hell of a time with shipping and sales regulations, so I am all for supporting them.
