Prince Charles Visits a Cheese Factory

Turns out the royal family is interested in cheese, too! Prince Charles, along with his wife Camilla, visited Caws Cenarth cheese factory in Carmarthenshire to kick off his annual summer tour of Wales.

The award-winning cheese factory, which produces over 100 tons of cheese per day, was established in 1987 as a response to regulations that negatively affected dairy farmers across the UK. Founders  Gwynfor and Thelma Adams began making cheese to deal with the introduction of milk quotas to the agricultural system.

After touring the facility, Prince Charles was able to hold a 2.6 kilogram wheel of Golden Cenarth, a cheese that won Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards. The Golden Cenarth is made with cider from Prince Charles’ very own Duchy estate.

Owner Carwyn Adams said that he was impressed at Prince Charles’ food knowledge.

He said, “The Prince last visited us in 1998, and he was impressed to see how much we had expanded since then.”
