North Carolina Newbie at the Southern Cheese Festival
Headed to the Southern Cheese Festival? If so, you should take a new cheese from Goat Lady Dairy for a test drive. Goat Lady Dairy, based in North Carolina, was one of the first cheesemakers in the state when it was founded by Ginnie and Steve Tate in 1995. Though Ginnie passed away, her brother Steve and his wife have turned their farm into a successful business.
Their new cheese, Gray's Chapel, is a "mixed milk, raw milk cheese, it blends their own goats milk with organic cows milk from Lindale Organic Dairy." You should also take the time to try Smoky Mountain Round, which was awarded a blue ribbon in 2012 by the American Cheese Society. Go ahead, get tasting!
