Weekend DIY Project: Homemade Ghee


Also known as clarified butter, ghee is a versatile oil you can use all over the kitchen. Its high smoke point makes it great for frying, sautéing, and baking, and when you make your own ghee at home, you can control what type of butter its made of. Ready to get started? Ghee is essentially clarified butter, made by heating regular butter until the proteins (casein) and sugars (lactose) separate from the pure butterfat. Simple.
Depending on the source of the butter used, ghee can be very high in antioxidants, in additions to helping the body absorb vitamins and minerals from other foods, namely vitamins A, D, E, and K.
