For the sixth year in a row, Fromages de Terroirs, a non-profit organization, offers its irreverent, racy, and humorous calendar in the name of history and the preservation of traditional, French cheese.
According to the Association, practices dating back centuries, and that have produced such classics as Banon,Comté, and Camembert, are being overwhelmed by industrial growth, threatening the ecological and sociological value that has made the cheeses of France such prized commodities.
This lighthearted look at French history, presents twelve periods from the middle ages to today, each scene featuring a volunteer “From’ Girl” clad in, shall we say, an interpreted, period costume and posed, of course, with mouth-watering cheese.
Photographed by Philippe Serieys, these calendars are supported by a group of small and family-owned producers, all fighting to preserve traditional production practices against what is described as, “industrial groups using fake recipes and stealing our savoir-faire.”
