In Queso You Missed It February 10th

Happy Sunday, everyone! For those 80s music fans out there (whether you admit it or not), these names might sound familiar: “Wake Me Up Before You Goat Goat” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fontina.” That’s right. Aldi’s released a new line of six cheeses with puny names inspired by hit 80s songs. With each only costing $3.49, you can’t afford NOT to take a trip down memory lane.

Here’s what you might have missed this week in cheese news:

  • Most of us are aware of the 1.4 billion pounds of surplus cheese sitting in U.S. warehouses. Regardless, business is booming for small, artisan cheese producers.

  • There seem to be as many different kinds of cheese and there are people. But these folks polled 75,000 people to determine the best cheeses in the world.

  • We all know that wedding cake normally tastes gross. If you’re about to get hitched, consider this 24-pound artisan cheese wedding cake from Costco instead.

  • In case you’re late to the party, cheese coffee is starting to gain traction in the U.S. See what you’re missing and try Percolate’s B.S.T. (Bitter-Sweet Tiramisu) next time you’re in LA.

  •  The U.S. Championship Cheese Contest’s 20th year competition is next month, and already submissions are up 11 percent from last year.

  • Instant Pot owners boast more about it than a Ferrari owner. If you’re already on the bandwagon, here’s a recipe for Instant Pot Mac and Cheese. And it only takes 20 minutes!

  •  We’ve been seeing vegan cheese rise in popularity over the past few years. Violife, a Greek brand of vegan cheese, became the first dairy-free cheese to make it on the U.K.’s list of 20 most popular cheese brands.
