Two millennial turophiles are truly living the dream. Rachel Freund and her partner Cole Van Seters set out last May for a coast-to-coast road trip, visiting national parks and exploring along the way. Cabot Creamery happened to be looking for “cheese ambassadors,” so the couple spent seven months giving cheddar tastings at food shows and grocery stores. In addition, they committed “Random Acts of Cheddar,” gifting 1,500 pounds of cheese to volunteers around the country. If that isn’t the best job since slicing bread, we don’t know what is.
Here’s what else you might have missed this week in cheese news:
- University of Maine researchers unveiled that consumption of yogurt and other dairy is associated with healthier dietary habits and cardiometabolic health. No idea what “cardiometabolic” means, but we’ll take any excuse to eat more cheese.
- Chili cheese dip looks pretty disgusting, so it’s best to save it for a Game Day treat or for people who already know your culinary skills. But hey, it sounds pretty delicous and it’s only three ingredients.
- The beloved Californian dairy Cowgirl Creamery recently released Hop Along, its first new cheese since 2011. This semi-firm cheese is washed in cider from France’s Brittany region. We can’t wait to try it!
- British vegans have something to celebrate: Starbucks announced a tofu breakfast burrito and dairy-free mac and cheese will be served at select locations.
- Although Americans consume almost 40 pounds of cheese per person each year, U.S. trade conflicts paired with high-producing cows is spelling trouble for Idaho dairy farmers.
- For a taste of Taco Bell without leaving your house, try one of their new cheese blends. With Zesty Ranch, Salsa Verde, 7-Layer Blend, and Breakfast Fiesta, you can fulfill the “Taco Bell saturation that is your destiny.”
- Martina McBride is not just a singer; she recently published her second cookbook. With Superbowl Sunday coming up in a few weeks, you might want to check out her yummy cheese dip recipes.
A Bay-area creamery making a cheese called Hop Along, but washing it in cider rather than an IPA. That’s god-level trolling.
It definitely would’ve been a perfect name for a beer-washed cheese!
