Happy Sunday, cheese lovers! Hope everyone is settling into this lazy last Sunday of January, with nothing to do but snack and watch the Grammy’s.
Here’s what you may have missed this week in cheese:
- Vermont-native Rory Stamp, of Dedalus Wine Shop in Burlington, Vermont, won the Cheesemonger Invitational, a semi-annual competition. Why, you ask? See his pink peppercorn macarons with Mt Tam buttercream.
- For over 50 years, the village of Stilton in Cambridgeshire has hosted an annual cheese-rolling competition. This year, they’re canceling it because the kids don’t think it’s cool anymore.
- People are falling out of love with Salt Bae after he covered a steak with American cheese. There’s a time and a place for processed cheese, but it ain’t there, buddy.
- Bon Appetit wrote an ode to butterkäse, and we also can’t get over their crazy cheesy roundup of Superbowl snack recipes.
- Russia banned the importation of foreign cheese back in 2014, right after they annexed Crimea. Out of these flames rose a Phoenix—meet Russia’s Guardian Angel of Cheese.
- Adam Moskowitz, the founder of the Cheesemonger Invitational known as the “Prince of Cheese,” schooled us on fondue. We’re going to spend the rest of the winter honing our skills…
