In Queso You Missed It February 3rd

Happy Superbowl Sunday, folks! We all know that food trends come and go; it feels like just yesterday that cheese tea was causing waves in California. Now, a tea and coffee house in Southern California offers cheese coffee, with cold brew as the base. Before you grimace imagining clumps of mozzarella in your iced coffee, the “cheese” part is a concoction of sweetened cream cheese and heavy cream. Dust it with some cocoa powder and we have ourselves a winner!

Here’s what you might have missed this week in cheese news:

  • The notorious Denver’s Whole Foods mac and cheese bar described as the “4-foot-wide Promise Land of carbs and cheese” is on its last leg.

  • Experts have estimated that Americans will buy 88 million pounds of cheese for Superbowl festivities. With an enormous dairy surplus, we say make it 89 million.

  • In case you’re wondering what to do with all the cheese you just bought, consider a cheese ball, skillet pepperoni pizza dip, or some queso.

  • For those midwesterners out there, Indiana has a pretty solid cheese scene. The Indianapolis Monthly did a taste test of their smelliest cheeses, and our mouths are watering.

  • Budget stores are really stepping up their game. Next time you’re at Cosco, look for their heart-shaped four cheese ravioli. It’s never too early to plan for Valentine’s Day.

  • We like bagels, we like lobster…why not combine the two? Black Seed Bagels and Luke’s Lobsters teamed up for a limited edition bagel sandwich. If you can’t make it to New York, you can indulge in their lobster cream cheese.

  • The Florida State Fair recently released a list of their new food offerings. The rainbow grilled cheese and buffaloaded mac and cheese quesadilla are good places to start.
