The Best Creamy Cheeses for Your October Grazing Table

Celebrate Halloween and the harvest with boo-tiful blues, sumptuous triple creams, and more

While some are shifting into soup mode, we at culture are settling into creamy cheeses with heft. Gone are the breezy seaside cheeses of summer; with the cold coming, we’re craving something we can sink our teeth into—and something that’ll stand out on a Halloween cheese plate. Browse these eight cheeses for inspiration all October long.

Cave Aged Limited Buttered Pumpkin by Murray’s

For something decadent, try Murray’s limited edition Buttered Pumpkin. It’s made using a triple cream—Four Fat Fowl’s St. Stephen to be specific—as well as autumn spices and annatto for its signature red stripe through the middle. Murray’s says it’s “like a bite of pumpkin pie made savory,” which sounds like a flavor profile that will carry you through to Thanksgiving.

Le Campagnier by Fromager d’Affinois

Fromager d’Affinois’ double cream Le Campagnier sports an orange washed rind and a mild flavor. Sold in cheerful orange-and-white packaging, this French cheese is as festive as it is rich. It’s a no-brainer for serving at Halloween or Friendsgiving parties down the line.

Cinnamon Spice Goat Cheese by LaClare Creamery

LaClare Creamery’s cashing in on cinnamon spice and everything nice with its latest goat cheese. Cinnamon Spice feels like an ode to the pumpkin spice latte in goat cheese form, focusing on the warming spices that makes the drink a hit. Be sure to try LaClare’s full lineup of fall cheeses, though—you could easily make a harvest time cheese plate by including Pumpkin, Maple Bourbon, and Cranberry Orange, which is also new.

Le Crémeux à la Truffe d’été Germain by La Fromagerie Germain

This new triple cream uses summer truffles, but don’t let that fool you—this cheese was made for October. A fine black line of truffles cuts its white center, adding an earthy funk to this elegant cheese; if it could be any person, it would be Morticia Addams.

Maple Chipotle Goat Cheese by Vermont Creamery

Full of sweet heat along with a light orange hue, Vermont Creamery’s Maple Chipotle goat cheese log is a crowd pleaser with a kick. We love that it’s infused with Vermont maple syrup too. Pair this cheese with candied pecans, such as ones from Fortune Favors.

Rogue River Blue by Rogue Creamery

Rogue River Blue is released annually on the autumn equinox and made from milk higher in butterfat than any other time of year. It’s a luxurious cheese, covered in grape leaves that have been soaked in pear liquor. The rind offers a pop of dark forest green on boards (and a spooky gravitas a la Tim Burton).

Howdy, Partner by Cowgirl Creamery

The sweet heat roll continues with Howdy, Partner, a smoky Cowgirl Creamery triple cream crafted in collaboration with Rustic Bakery. The collab is a celebration of Rustic Bakery’s 20th anniversary, as the cheese is meant to be paired with the bakery’s Chipotle & Cayenne Savory Biscuit. Visually, Howdy, Partner is dotted with red pepper flakes; we could see this on any true crime aficionado’s cheese plate.

Petite Boo by Marin French Cheese Co.

Petite Boo’s back to haunt you this Halloween. This ash-coated triple cream brie is ghostly white on the outside, but boasts a bright orange color on the inside reminiscent of jack-o’-lanterns. It melts like a dream, should you go the baked brie route.
