There’s More Than One Way to Eat Fried Cheese

Cheese oozing from a deep-fried crispy panko crust with a side of parsley and berries

The humorists over at “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” have taken it upon themselves to try the Deep Fried Grilled Cheese Sandwich from Big & Little’s in Chicago. The guys tackle this beer-battered, deep-friend sandwich for Sandwich Monday, and their reactions range from awe to adoration.

It’s probably never actually grilled, right? So technically it should be called “deep-fried cheese,” but I guess they wanted to distinguish it from the most perfect thing in the universe.

According to their taste test, the deep-fried sandwich retains some of the classic grilled cheese flavor. We’re not sure if we trust them, though…we just might have to try it for ourselves! (How terrible.)

Here at culture, we love fried cheese for many different reasons, not only because we agree it is pretty close to “the most perfect thing in the universe.” Cheese is great, but throw it in the fryer, and it’s a whole new level of delicious–mozzarella sticks are popular for a reason! Some of our favorite fried cheese dishes: this salad with fried goat cheese, Deep-Fried Cheese with Sweet and Sour Berry Sauce (it IS berry season, guys), and deep fried cheese curds. Oh, baby.
