Sometimes working at a cheese magazine means flying cross-country to sunny California to spend the weekend at a cheese festival. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. Held in Santa Rosa, Calif., the California Artisan Cheese Festival is split into two parts. On Saturday, participants chose between farm tours or seminars. Seminar topics ranged from cheese science to wine pairings. (The culture team chose the seminars because, well, wine pairings.) This meant tasting cheese with red or white wine at 9 a.m. Thankfully, that’s noon Boston time, which is a perfectly respectable time to enjoy a glass of wine…right? Sunday featured the artisan cheese festival and marketplace, where cheesemakers and other retailers set up tables for sampling. And the only thing better than 9 a.m. wine is an airplane hanger full of free food samples.
