  • The U.S. Dairy Sustainability Awards program announced this year’s winners. Among the many cheesemakers who are prioritizing sustainability is Rogue Creamery, which took the title for Outstanding Dairy Processing and Manufacturing. See the full list of winners here.
  • Marin French Cheese Co. updated its packaging with a new logo and design to emphasize its status as the oldest artisan cheesemaker in the US. But don’t be fooled: Each little soft-ripened wheel still uses the same traditional French techniques we all know and love.
  • Memphis’s first ever cheese shop—Greys Cheese Shop—opened its doors last month! Cuban-American store owner Jacqueline Mau has been taken aback by the amount of support her community has shown her since its launch. “As a Cuban-American woman, it brings me joy to pave the way for other Latin women, to venture out into an industry where we are under-represented,” Mau says. “I have found nothing but support from everyone: producers, vendors, and—most importantly —our turophile tribe in Memphis.” Locals can check out upcoming classes and workshops, order curated cheese boards, and more from the Greys website here.
  • Just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, Cowgirl Creamery‘s Point Reyes cheese shop and Cantina cafe is debuting a new look and expanded space to welcome visitors. The new Cowgirl Studio will be an extension of the current retail shop, provide travelers with Cowgirl’s award-winning organic cheese and will host its virtual events.
  • New Englanders: It’s time to head outside and hunt for cheese. This summer and fall, The Vermont Cheese Council is hosting The Hunt: “A scavenger hunt and curated insiders’ guide that will have you exploring Vermont’s outdoor environment, history, and its cheeses.” Participants will download a Hunt Clue Packet to guide them through the state, then answer questions online for a chance to win Vermont cheeses. Learn more and get involved here.
  • Jasper Hill’s upcoming virtual class, Understanding Cheddar Better, will feature celebrated monger Gordon Edgar and celebrate the history and uniqueness of cheddar. A portion of proceeds will go to the Culture Cheese Coalition, a nonprofit empowering BIPOC communities through education. Grab your cheddar kit here before they’re gone (or just attend to soak up all the knowledge here).
  • Kiwi singer Lorde gave a shout out to her favorite sheep’s milk cheese Devotion from New Zealand-based Thorvald in a recent newsletter, and fans are ready to stock up. The only problem? It’s out of season. “The very slight issue is that she’s [drawn attention to Devotion] now, when we don’t have any,” said Virginnia Thomas, head of business development at Thorvald. Any locals looking to try this fudgy washed rind will have to wait until September, when it’ll likely be back in stock.
