America’s dairy industry grew up around the classic wooden barn, each one a beacon of shelter and purpose, built with faith in what nature would provide if hard work was supplied. As these symbols of agrarian optimism gradually disappear from the landscape, our photo essay celebrates those who seek to preserve them through art and activism.
