In other cheese news:

  • Like so many in the cheese industry, we at culture were heartbroken to hear about the passing of icon and wonderful soul Anne Saxelby. In a tribute piece, we spoke with fellow industry members and friends who shared their memories of Anne and discussed the profound impact she made on the American artisan cheese community.   • Our editor-in-chief was one of the judges at the long-awaited return of the Cheesemonger Invitational, which took place a couple of weeks ago in NYC. Read all about her first-time experience at the event here.
  • The Mozzarella Cheese Global Market Trajectory & Analytics 2021 report has been released, and it’s estimated that the market will reach $47.3 billion by 2026, a 5.7% increase from 2020 reports. (A lot of this might be due to the culture staff’s personal obsession with mozz, but who’s to say?)
  • Irish company Dairygold is launching its first line in the United States: Pastureland, a line of Irish cheddars made from grass-fed cows. 
  • Slow Food USA is hosting a virtual grilled cheese cook-off on October 20! Chefs Jernard Wells and Julian Frederick will whip up some melty, family-friendly recipes that you’ll want to recreate from home. Register here.
  • Savencia Fromage & Dairy is adding a new line of snackable cheeses to its lineup: Alouette Gourmet Bites, made from Alouette’s creamy, spreadable cheeses in bite-sized spheres filled with flavorful centers.
  • Pumpkin season is in full swing, and the best way to celebrate is—not with a latte—but with a seasonal cheese. Enter Montchevre’s Spiced Pumpkin log, Beemster’s Pumpkin Spice Gouda, and Switzerland’s Jack O Pumpkinseed Cheese (which is now back in stock to order online).
  • Move over apple and balsam—mac and cheese is now the hottest scent you need in your kitchen. This new candle from DW Home offers the comforting and nostalgic smells of boxed mac and cheese without the effort.
