Cheese Plate: Cheesy Chocolate Overload

Turns out we aren’t the only ones who think cheese and chocolate have serious chemistry. Several chocolate makers (and even some cheesemakers) have capitalized on this flavor combo, crafting products that highlight the love connection between the two ingredients.

Lillie Belle Farms’ Smokey Blue Truffles enrobe Rogue Creamery blue and toasted Almonds in milky sweet chocolate.

Rogue Creamery’s Cacow Belle Cheddar gets its lacey marbling from Lillie Belle chocolate.

Moro Formaggi (makers of Sottocenere al Tartufo) Choco 21 is a wheel of blue cheese washed in chocolate liqueur, dusted with cocoa powder, and topped with chocolate chunks.

Yellow Door Creamery Mayan Cocoa Coffee Fontina is hand-rubbed with ground cocoa, coffee, and spices.

Vella Dry Jack  gets rubbed with cocoa and olive oil to achieve its leathery sheen.

Vosges’ Rooster Truffles (part of the Collezione Italiana box) blend Taleggio with walnuts in a 62% ganache, while their bars come in Manchego and Cherry and Parmesan Walnut and Fig varietals.

Westfield Farm’s Chocolate Capri Log is a chèvre that walks the line between fudge and cheese.
