Grilled Cheese Doughnuts?!

Try to think of the most delectable sweet and savory combination possible. Doughnuts and cheese, you said? We think so, too. The folks at Tom + Chee, named after two quintessential ingredients of a grilled cheese–cheese and tomato–have mastered the art of creating original, delicious grilled cheese doughnuts for their Cincinnati-based restaurant.

The restaurant originally started as a food tent, and got major exposure when it was featured on the television show, Shark Tank. Though the business was originally centered around a quality grilled cheese recipe, with garlic and tomato wedged between slices of mozzarella and cheddar, the menu has expanded to more adventurous options. The “Bananarama,” for example, features caramelized bananas and Gouda melted between a glazed donut, while the Mint Summer’s Night is piled with mint candy, chocolate mascarpone, fresh strawberries, and mozzarella.

For those craving more familiar foods, Tom + Chee also features “fancy grilled cheeses” on their menu, with savory ingredients like pesto, bacon, and pepperoni. There’s an option to add macaroni and cheese to any sandwich to make it especially cheesy and delicious. We approve.

The franchise, which already includes 150 locations, is expanding to Indianapolis, with its grand opening scheduled for August 29.
