If you’re up to date on global cheese news, then you’ve likely already heard of (and had FOMO about) Café Rouge opening a limited-time Cheese Suite in Camden, London last month. If this comes as a surprise to you, get ready to be mind-blown.
The Cheese Suite opened as part of Café Rouge’s genius plan to promote their winter menu, which is chock-full of cheese-centric comfort dishes like halloumi frites, croque monsieur, and garlic sourdough flatbreads. Plenty of hopeful guests entered the giveaway through their website—the only way to guarantee a spot—but only a few lucky winners were selected for an overnight stay.
Cheese-themed wallpaper and furniture, cheese-scented soaps and candles, and even cheesy movies, music, and board games awaited the lucky turophiles who won a night at The Cheese Suite. In addition to room service access to the restaurant’s cheesy offerings, the hotel refrigerator was stocked with plenty of wines and wedges: specifically Camembert, goat’s milk cheeses, Comté, and brie—all part of Café Rouge’s seasonal menu.
The entire experience was free, but guests had the opportunity to contribute as much as they wanted to Café Rouge’s charity partner, The Prince’s Trust—a UK charity focused on aid for at-risk youth. Items from the suite were also donated to the charity after it closed.
Sadly, The Cheese Suite closed its doors on February 7th. But if you missed out like we did, don’t worry. Café Rouge is already looking into phase two of their campaign, which could re-open the suite or reimagine another cheesy paradise. Stay tuned!
