Gruyère Welsh Rarebit Toast


Gruyère Welsh Rarebit Toast

A Welsh rarebit is a dish made of luscious cheese sauce flavored with ale, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce, spread over toasted bread and broiled to golden perfection. The next time a grilled cheese sandwich craving hits, try this instead.

Ingredients
  

  • Crusty bread cut into eight 1/2-inch slices
  • 1 pound 12-month Gruyère finely grated
  • 1/2 cup ale
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives

Instructions
 

  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Spread bread slices on a baking tray and bake until lightly toasted, about 4 to 6 minutes.
  • Add cheese, ale, Worcestershire sauce, butter, and mustard to a large bowl. Stir until combined.
  • Remove bread from oven and spread a generous amount of cheese mixture over each slice (follow your heart here).
  • Return tray to the oven and bake for 5 minutes, or until cheese sauce is golden brown and bubbling.
  • Garnish with chopped chives.
